Dvořák & Pärt Masterpieces

MARCH 2 & 3, 2019

For the Classical concert, we offered two works by two different composers, the well-known Antonin Dvořák and the modern day Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. Both composers, like Vivaldi before them, have embedded portions of the Latin Mass in a new setting. Pärt’s Salve Regina is a beautiful and ethereal composition, contemplative and even mystical. After intermission, we will launch into Dvořák’s Mass in D Major. Better known for his symphonies, in particular the New World Symphony, Dvořák was also a prolific vocal composer, with a requiem, many cantatas and oratorios, and nine operas to his credit.
